Leadscope And Its Founders Win Legal Case Against American Chemical Society

Columbus, Ohio April 2, 2008 - Leadscope, Inc. is pleased to announce it won a jury verdict, vindicating the Company and its Founders in a lawsuit filed by the American Chemical Society (Society) nearly six years ago. The lawsuit challenged Leadscope's ownership of its patented intellectual property, which was invented by Leadscope's Founders Paul E. Blower, Jr., Wayne P. Johnson, and Glenn J. Myatt after they left employment with the Society's Chemical Abstracts Service Division.

Following an eight-week trial, the Ohio jury rejected the Society's claims, concluding that the Founders had not stolen trade secrets or breached their employment contracts, and that the American Chemical Society made its trade secret misappropriation claim in bad faith. The jury also found for Leadscope and its Founders on their counterclaims, finding that the Society had defamed the Founders and the Company, had engaged in unfair competition through malicious litigation and circulation of false statements about Leadscope and its Founders, and had interfered with the Company's business relationships.

Leadscope's CEO, Loftus Lucas said "We are grateful to our customers, employees, partners, friends and investors who had faith in us and our products, and whose support enabled the Company to survive the six-year ordeal. Now that Leadscope's intellectual property is unencumbered by these false claims, we can move forward with our plans to deliver our chemoinformatics software, databases and In Silico Decision Support capabilities to our customers and partners."

  • Drugs @ FDA 1,931 compounds
  • FDA Orange Book 1,851 compounds
  • National Drug Code Directory 1,346 compounds
  • NLM Medical Subject Heading 5,418 compounds

The FDA CFSAN 2007 Acute Toxicity database contains information on approximately 1,071 direct food additives covering 1,636 tests.

  • Test system includes
    • rats: 950 chemicals
    • mice: 366 chemicals
Compound-level LD50 values recorded in FDA CFSAN PAFA database

Leadscope Announces the Availability of the Database Builder Software

Columbus, Ohio August 7, 2007 - Leadscope announces the availability of the Leadscope Database Builder software. The Database Builder software converts legacy toxicity data into an electronic format using the database standard and controlled vocabulary (ToxML). The ToxML is used to construct FDA databases by Leadscope, Lhasa Limited and the U.S. FDA under their Cooperative Research & Development Agreement. By using the standardized ToxML vocabulary, institutions will be able to combine their toxicity data with data from the FDA.

The initial Version 1.0 of the Database Builder allows customers to create electronic databases using the standardized ToxML for Genetic toxicity, Chronic/Subchronic and Repro-Developmental toxicity studies. Future ToxML vocabularies to be completed include Neurotoxicity, Developmental-Neurotoxicity, Carcinogenicity, Skin Sensitization and Acute toxicity. ToxML will also be expanded to environmental endpoints.

Loftus Lucas, Leadscope's CEO, said, "Providing a tool which allows organizations to convert their legacy data into a standardized format which is being used by the FDA, will greatly enhance the usability of an organization's toxicity information. Once combined with the FDA’s data, an organizations data may be ready for SAR analysis, data mining or prediction model building."

To promote the use of ToxML, Leadscope is offering a free software product called the Leadscope ToxML Editor. This product allows you to enter a single compound and single study at a time for all the same toxicity endpoints available in the Database Builder.. The editing functionality of the ToxML Editor is exactly the same as the commercial Database Builder. Interested organizations may download this free software by visiting Leadscope's website at www.leadscope.com/toxmleditor.

Leadscope is available to provide consulting services to assist an organization in converting their legacy toxicity information. Special discounts are provided to academic or governmental organizations. Interested parties should contact Leadscope.

Leadscope Announces the Appointment of Dr. Chihae Yang as Chief Scientific Officer

Columbus, Ohio June 1, 2007 - Leadscope announces the appointment of Dr. Chihae Yang to the position of Chief Scientific Officer.

This announcement signifies a promotion for Dr. Yang. She joined Leadscope in September 2000 as a Senior Scientist. During her tenure with Leadscope she has been responsible for product development in the areas of Prediction and Toxicity Database creations. Her most recent position was that of Vice President of Toxicology & Predictive Modeling. Dr. Yang is also an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University, lecturing on chemoinformatics, data-mining and predictions. She has served as the Principal Investigator for several grants Leadscope has received, including the Advanced Technology Program grant with NIST and the Technology Action Fund grant under the Third Frontier Program from the State of Ohio.

Loftus Lucas, Leadscope's CEO, said, "The promotion of Dr. Yang to Chief Scientific Officer is extremely warranted. She has been the driving figure as the Principal Investigator for Leadscope in the completion of the ToxML standardized vocabulary in our CRADA with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. She continues to oversee the expansion of the standardized vocabulary of ToxML with the FDA into other endpoints. She is also extending the concept Data to Models with many of Leadscope's customers in the area of legacy toxicity data capture through to toxicity prediction."

Leadscope will continue to expand its CRADA relationship with the FDA for the creation of additional endpoints within our ToxML standardized vocabulary, creation of additional toxicity databases and endpoint specific prediction models. We will also expand the ToxML standardized vocabulary into the area of environmental toxicity. Dr. Yang will oversee these expansion areas.

Leadscope, Inc. and Lhasa, Ltd Announce Collaboration on ToXML

Columbus, Ohio March 15, 2006 - Leadscope, Inc. and Lhasa, Ltd. are pleased to announce their joint support for ToxML, a public domain communication standard for chemical and toxicological data exchange. In order to promote the standard and to extend its coverage to new end-points, the companies will work together and collaborate with Leadscope customers, Lhasa Limited members and the wider scientific community.

Working to the ToxML standard will mean that users can move data not only between database management systems from the two companies but also across all platforms that support it. Loftus Lucas, of Leadscope, commented "With the increasing importance of data held by public bodies such as the FDA and EPA, scientists need to be able to move data freely between different platforms and be able to easily compare these regulatory data with their proprietary data. This standard means they will easily transfer data and will not be restricted to using software from one particular vendor." Philip Judson, of Lhasa Limited, said "The agreement makes an important contribution to Lhasa Limited's aim of promoting the sharing of knowledge between scientists."

U. S. Food & Drug Administration/Leadscope, Inc. sign CRADA for Toxicity Databases

Columbus, Ohio February 8, 2006 - The U. S. Food & Drug Administration ("FDA") has signed a Cooperative Research & Development Agreement ("CRADA") with Leadscope, Inc. to distribute toxicity databases compiled using information from the FDA's nonproprietary files. This is the first CRADA for the FDA involving two Centers; 1) the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research ("CDER") and 2) the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition ("CFSAN"). Both Centers will release nonproprietary toxicity information through Leadscope.

The CRADA's objective is to make high quality nonproprietary toxicity data from the FDA's files publicly accessible at very low cost. The databases will be delivered in the new ToxML format, enabling structures and XML data to be deployed together. The databases will be platform independent.
